Beachin Mod

A blogspot dedicated to the development (and now enjoyment) of a modern beach cottage on the Florida panhandle. This site will take you along my stumbling path of what it takes to build a simple, modern, affordable, and green beach cottage in Laguna Beach, FL near Panama City Beach as well as some insight on the many other distractions and diversions in my life.

I cought this image when I was driving up the street a block over and the Casa caught the corner of my eye. Definitiely an eye catcher as pass by.

A cool shot with the eastern sky filled with a distant thunderhead.

The ceilings are high - 14' to the point above the clerestories which barely show here.

More from the Casa de Maraposa
As we trudge ahead with the foam and steel panel assembly, things are beginning to take shape for the Casa de Maraposa. We have basically gotten all the walls up and some interior framing which will support the beams. Had we not had missing parts as well as compenents not manufactured correct from the panels supplier, we would have the roof panels on by now. The guys from Arbor Homes, the contractor, have been quite patient and continue to find sulotions and other things to do while we wait for the missing pieces. Furthermore, the gawkers have been plentiful as this building takes shape. We have had ideas from 1.) make it a huge beer cooler to 2.) leave the roof panel hinged to we can have easy access to the beer!
With such a small foot print for the home (<1000sf) the high celings, vaulting from 10' to 14' really open the pace up and give it a HUGE feel for such a small beach cottage.
We visited the cabinet builder this past week and it seems he is on the same page as we are with some simple yet modern cabinets. He has convinced us to use maple instead of birch for only a slight increase in price but he feels we will be much more pleased. Uh-oh...gotto to change the BR doors to the same....
